JoyLyn is the UCMQG liason with Highland Arts Counsel & Highland Quilting & Fiber Arts, she also co-founded and manages the UCMQG and is a tremendous wealth of knowledge and expertise.
JoyLyn has always been interested in fabric & creating since she was 6 years old. She would retreat to her basement and sit at her Great Grandmothers treadle sewing machine armed with a box of fabric scraps, buttons, rick rack & her favorite Barbie Doll. She would create fashions worthy of the couture houses of Paris, France (or at least she thought so). She worked her way through 4-H sewing, Make it with Wool, and other competition sewing. She studied Fashion Merchandising & Design as well as Clothing & Textiles. After one too many commissioned Prom & Wedding dresses she discovered that quilting didn't require a fitting mannequin, perfectly placed darts, invisible zippers or bound buttonholes. What had only been a passing hobby became a new fulfilling creative outlet. She love, love, loves fabric. There isn't a color, style or rarely a print that she can't find redeeming value in. This is both a blessing & a curse. She is constantly compelled to learn & master new methods & techniques. Curiosity lead her to become a Bernina Customer Course teacher, a Certified Square in a Square Method teacher & a Quiltsmart Method Teacher & a Co-Founder of the Utah County Modern Quilt Group. She really loves teaching & sharing! She especially loves seeing a student who catches the excitement & feels satisfaction in becoming a creator of beauty in their own life. Quilting like anything else is best when it's shared and passed on. JoyLyn's mission has always been to preserve & promote the fabric arts, (whether it be in her littler corner of the world or beyond). When she is not quilting & sewing you'll find her being a Wife, Mother, Nana & Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt & Friend to the most important people in her life.
Kristin is our expert in all things modern. She creates and inspires with class samples and quilts. Kristin is co-founder of UCMQG, contributes to the monthly UCMQG meetings, blog posts and Instagram.
Kristin started quilting when she was pregnant with her first baby and made a quilt out of her grandmother's vintage sheets. Kristin comes from a strong cultural heritage of traditional quilting in her family and feels their influence in her modern quilting. Kristen loves the direction modern quilting is headed. Sharing in others' quilt journeys makes her almost as happy as laying out her own just-finished top on the floor for the first time. When Kristin isn't quilting she enjoys birding, cycling, and reading when she should be sleeping.
Anna runs UCMQG fabric swaps. She makes quilt samples for our monthly sessions and is our expert in all things internationally modern.
Anna loves all things creative and domestic, including quilting, especially paper piecing, embroidery, crochet, knitting, cooking/baking, especially sweets!, gardening, and decorating. She also enjoys hosting and participating in online fabric swaps and quilt block exchanges through Flickr. Her favorite part of the creative process is the design phase. One of Anna's biggest dreams is to move to Sweden with her husband someday for a couple of years.
Pamela contributes to UCMQG through QuiltBLISS retreats and sponsorships.
Pamela has been quilting for 13 years and enjoys the creative outlet quilting brings with 4 rambunctious boys. She fell in love with modern quilting a few years ago and enjoys its liberating fabrics and patterns. Not one to follow a pattern, Pamela is usually just "winging it" when she sews. When Pamela is not quilting, she is playing hard with her boys, pulling something out of the oven or hiking somewhere along the Wasatch Front.
Sydney handles membership, emails & communication for UCMQG. She has been with us since the beginning, and we couldn't do this without her! She is our "nuts and bolts" gal who keeps us running straight and smoothly. She has learned to sew and quilt for years in her mother, JoyLyn's home and now makes her own beautiful creations. She is great at making bags and pillows, as well as quilts. She is also currently really enjoying beginning her own journey of motherhood.
