Rainy January's Meeting in Review

Thanks for braving the weather to come to class, and welcome to Heather, Christie & Genie who have joined us! We hope even more friends will join us at the start of our new session in February!

As always, give us a few days to get today's show-and-tell up on our Flickr group, via the button on the side of this blog. Here is the link to Swoon, by Bonnie & Camille for Moda, which Jill showed off. Wonderful blocks!

This month we discussed bringing words into our quilts.

Kristin showed several positive energy words using Tonya Riccuci's Word Play method. Her quilt will be a slightly calmer version of Tonya's LAWS quilt.  She also showed a darker version of Tula Pink's Modern Alphabet pattern.

And finally, the BYU quilt with an enlarged BYU logo traced onto fabric and machine embroidered by Peggy Watkins.

Syd showed us another Tula Pink pattern, LOVE, using similar lettering. She also showed us that as quilters we don't have to follow patterns exactly and something wonderful can come of our own personal tastes. (Kits available in store.)

My friend Anna has also been doing some great modern things at her blog and flickr stream, if you're looking for other ideas. She's also really into online block swaps, if you're interested in getting into these in 2012.

Enjoy the start of another new year, and I encourage all of us to take creative inventory of the ideas buzzing in our heads and make a short list of quilting goals for this year. Make it a beautiful one!
